  • Issue#2268: Linux - What is the easiest way to re-install full system from a backup in my case?

Hello! I'm aware of a zillion way to create a full system backup/disk image etc. But to me it's unclear as to how to use it after hard disk failure (or it's being stolen etc.). I've got a dual-boot (w/ GRUB 2) W10/Ubuntu 14.04 Desktop laptop. Laptop's internal HDD is where W10 lives and Ubuntu resides on external HDD, connected via USB3 cable. My / partition is about 20 GB (half of it is full by now). Plus I've got /home partition which has about 6 GB of my personal files (nothing is too impor...

  • Issue#2269: Linux - PVR addon not found in Kodi on Slackware

I'm running Slackware 14.1, and have installed the Slackbuilds for Kodi (Isengard 15.2) and tvheadend (3.4patch1). The Hauppauge TV card in the PC works perfectly using other tools (tzap, etc). Kodi and tvheadend compiled ok, though there was a minor error in the tvheadend SlackBuild script relating to the name of the source download. I can start tvheadend and configure it--had to manually enter the mux details, but then they display the available services fine. When I start kodi and attempt ...

  • Issue#2273: Linux - Can't install Ubuntu 15.10

It failed and for some reason I lost my wifi connection with 15.04 (after the upgrade was rejected it reverted back to the previous install) I had a previous downloaded full version of 15.10 on DVD so I attempted a clean install The DVD won't boot. I had a previous 14.04 DVD and after connecting with an ethernet cable I have installed 14.04, it works fine but I can't upgrade. I purchased Ubuntu User magazine with a new 15.10 DVD and atte...

  • Issue#2274: Linux - About 20 years ago Quake source code was released under the GPL.

I was copying some stuff over to a new box and ran across a 500 MB tarball of my old Quake stuff. Q1, Q2, GtkRadiant, all the bsp and vis tools, and a ton of community created levels. It all compiles and runs on Linux. I know because I used to do that sort of thing. It was a really big thing when id software let it out. The first "real" game for Linux, and a big turning point for SDL and other projects. Some of the files date to July 12 1996. I'd love to upload this tarball to a serv...

  • Issue#2275: Linux - Scroll bar and window suddenly drops to the bottom

Hi, I would be so grateful if anyone could help with this. I use Linux Mint 17 MATE and Firefox, all full and upgraded frequently. Often - not always but usually, I find the complete window suddenly scrolls to the bottom, showing the end of the window and making the programme unusable. Once it is scrolled down to bottom, it can only be moved up by using arrow keys and not by mouse. The problem may not do this straight away, maybe after two minutes, may be ten. It affects Firefox, my usual brows...

  • Issue#2281: Linux - How to prevent auto-mount a specific USB drive

I have just installed 15.10. I need to prevent a specifi USB drive from auto-mounting because it is used as an external backup drive and should not be normally visible. However, I do still want users to be able to have their own USB device auto-mounted when inserted. With 14.04 I used instructions such as: http://askubuntu.com/questions/30112...-auto-mounting to create a udev rule (although I never really tested it), but 15.10 does not ship with udisks and `apt-get install udisks` gives "...
